FEATURED MEMBER : Liz Masters >>When we pulled the name of this month's featured member out of the hat, I was very excited. Finally, I thought, I get to learn more about this talented artist, who-like her work-seems a bit of an enigma. >>The first time I met CHL featured member of the month Liz Masters (a.k.a. E. C. Masters) was at the CHL Meet & Greet in June. Twenty-two of us had gathered at Annie Bailey's downtown to step out of our safety zones and take a chance talking shop with what turned out to be some of Lancaster's finest. After chatting with Liz, I felt I had known her for much longer than our brief twenty-minute acquaintance. I made sure to ask her for her business card and she willing complied. Her business card, which features a clean illustration of the artist herself, is a wonderful representation of her skill. "Wow, this girl's got talent," I thought. "Why haven't I seen her work all over town?" I felt I needed to know more about this E. C. Masters. A feeling that still today, I can't shake. more>>
Self Worth, Value in Your Art. >>One of the most frequent conversations I have with my fellow CHL members is what to charge for a mural, painting or drawing. So, what's your time worth? >>I'm not a master of the subject but I am a student of the idea. This is something I struggle with everyday, and I think I've made some real breakthroughs in the past few months regarding charging what I feel I'm worth for my services. I'd like to share these with my friends at CHL. >>It seems everyone out there is looking at price these days but that doesn't make it impossible to sell value! But that's the thing, you have to sell value. You have to convince your buyer that price isn't the only issue. more>>
A Little Birdhouse in First Friday’s Soul: Lancaster Indie Arts Keeping the Nightlight On >>I’ve watched First Friday evolve over the last several years into an amazing display of appreciation for the arts in Lancaster. And while I’ve enjoyed the crowds and the array of galleries, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing. Where were the little birds to fill the birdhouse in First Friday’s soul? >>As I walked downtown last First Friday, I could feel that something was different. As I made my way through the crowds, I spied from a far the little bird adorning the Lancaster Indie Arts (LIA) banner in the Art Park across from the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design.more>>
Procrastination: It's A Good Thing >>I looked it up, and they don't have a picture of me in the dictionary next to the entry for procrastination. But, if they gave awards for the habit I'd probably have a room dedicated to proudly display my trophies for wins like Biggest Waste of Time, Funniest Excuse for Not Completing a Project and Best Supporting Procrastinator. Then again, I probably wouldn't. Rather, they would be piled in a closet somewhere, waiting for me to get around to putting the display together. more>>
The Infantree >> A new gallery is opening up this 1st Friday! This announcement got all of us very excited here at Subject2Change, so Krisha Martzall, Kelly Watson and I were sent out to check out what the latest addition to gallery row was all about. We found out that The Infantree is more than a gallery: it’s a collective of artists, and, in short, it’s amazing, fresh, exciting, colorful and did I say fresh! more>>
