| Take NoteRecap of CHL September meetingGet to know your neighbor was the theme behind our CHL meeting last month. Once everyone had settled down with some food and drink we got down to business. We starting the meeting off right with some recaps, updates and reminders. Here’s a quick recap in no certain order. Art in the Bar – a special thanks to the Alley Kat for allowing us to use their space and transform it into a gallery. The artist reception was a great success with many CHL members, friends and family coming out on Oct 2nd to have a cold beer and look at some art. Community Arts Market – Don’t forget the community arts market is set for Nov. 24th and Dec. 15th. Come join the CHL and the LIA at Eastern Market for a wonderful market of handmade items. It’s not too early to start thinking about the holiday season. So “Buy Local and Buy Handmade” and come out on the 24th and 15th for great gifts, good food and live music. We are still looking for vendors so if you’re interested in participating or know someone who is please check out www.thechl.org/communityevents for more info and to download a vendor application. CHL Christmas Party – In place of our monthly meeting the CHL will be having a Christmas Party December 14th So mark your calendars NOW. More info will be coming out in the next week or two so stay tuned! It's sure to be a great time – what a way to kick off your holiday season, spending a fun filled night with good friends. Maybe get a little networking done in the process. The Small Business Center at the Library is hosting a workshop about the business behind your art. If you're interested in opening an art business in Lancaster be sure to check this out. Visit www.lancaster.lib.pa.us for more info. After we ran down the list of updates we moved on to Max Phillips the Managing editor for Subject2Change. Filling us in on all the excitement around the eZine, Max mentioned how we’re always looking for contributors. Artist, designers, writers, article ideas, web designers, if you have a skill we can use it! Even if you just have a good link or tip that you think everyone could use send it to max@thechl.org and we’ll be sure to investigate. Also, we’re going to be featuring a book each month, this month’s book being the graphic artist’s guild handbook for ethical pricing the 12th edition. Make sure to check it out. Ask Mona? What? Ask Mona – is a new column that will be gracing the digital pages of our eZine. If you have a creative question be sure to ask Mona and she’ll be sure to get you the answer. Send your questions to askmona@thechl.org Next up was Deirdre Foley Citro from LIA to give us some info December First Friday at Central Market that will be taking place Dec. 7th. This is another wonderful opportunity for vendors to get involved. Please email Deirdre at dfcitro@comcast.net for more info. Event information will also be placed on the CHL website. Once everyone had a chance to introduce themselves and all the speeches were made we opened the floor for a lively conversation on online networking, Why we network, Where we network, when should we network and how to do it right. Thanks to all who participated. Finally we put everyone in random groups for a little speed networking and brainstorming on networking and what we’d like to get out of it and also workshops that members would like the CHL to offer/explore. Everyone really got involved and I give you all so much credit. The CHL is here to help break down walls in a casual environment. Helping you to get to know new people in the area and networking on a personal level. You all did a fantastic job and thank you all for coming out. It’s member’s involvement that makes the CHL possible. Here’s just an idea of some of the many workshops the CHL is exploring for its members:if you have an idea for a workshop please email it to me at anne@thechl.org subject: workshops.
Thanks again to everyone who could make it out last night, Annie Baileys for allowing us to use the space, Abby for serving all of us hungry folks, Krisha Martzall for taking photos, Allen Clements for Video and all the members who participated. If you haven’t made it out to a CHL meeting we do have another one next month. Be sure to mark your calendar for Nov 15th when the CHL will gather yet again. And don’t forget about our party on Dec 14th. More info to come! Cheers, |
