Recap of CHL August meeting

Many new faces last night as 32 of us packed into the Brickyard for the 2nd CHL meeting! A few announcements were made by Max Phillips about the CHL eZine, titled “Subject2Change,” which will be debuting this coming Thursday. If you’d like to contribute to this exciting new publication just let us know. Douglas Campbell updated us on the Eastern Market Landscape project that we have in the works (meeting for this project will be announced soon), and Christina Martin discussed the Membership Quilt that we’re going to create. Instructions will be emailed to everyone. We all had the pleasure of listening to a bit of Kelly Watson’s podcast that she created for the “Thank God it’s First Friday” article that her and Jennifer McMorris covered for us. And last, but definitely not least, Liz Masters gave us a description of the symbolism behind her incredible “Harvesting Renewable Talent” painting that she has created for our up coming Alternative Art Space show. The date and time is still to be determined.

After a few speeches and updates we opened the floor up for questions and socializing and let me say that the energy in the room last night could have lit the building. I’m not sure Lancaster has seen this kind of diverse talent gather in one place, and we’re so happy to see it evolve and unfold in such a short time.

Like I said last night we all can do great things if we pull our resources together!

Some things to keep in mind:

  1. For those that are interested in the eZine “Subject2Change” we have an editorial meeting coming up on September 6th so mark your calendars. The location/time still TBD. We are looking for contributors, so if you’d like to share your love for writing, photography, illustration, marketing, food, theater, music research, editing etc ... just send an email to Max Phillips @  Max@theCHL.org and he’ll point you in the right direction.

  2. Our 1st featured member is Sean Poole and our sit down interview with him will be in the upcoming eZine, website, blog and myspace so make sure to check his work out. You might have seen Sean painting live at local concerts and know first hand how wonderful his work is, and if not then you’re in for a real treat.

  3. Our next BIG meeting is scheduled for September 20th, so write it down, tell a friend and come out to see us that Thursday.

  4. The CHL website domain as been established and it will be ... ready? Are you sure? OK, it will be www.thechl.org It’s not up and running yet, but it will be in the next few days so keep checking back. Remember, if you have any comments our suggestions just send them our way.

  5. We are going to start passing around our little Lego mascot space man “Major Tom” in the next few weeks so people can start to photograph him for the website (kind of like the traveling gnome). Do with him what you will as long as you keep in safe. Photos will be turned into banners for the website and for a gallery of “where is Major Tom?”

  6. The Lancaster Indie Arts is hosting an event this upcoming 1st Friday in the Art Park across from the PA College of Art and Design if you’re interested in selling your wears please let me know and I’ll forward you all the info.

Well, that’s just a quick recap to let you all in on what went down last night. More will be coming your way in the next few days so stay tuned! Exciting things are happening and thank you all for letting me be a part of it! Special thanks to Todd Spitler for the attached photos and to see more photos from the meeting just go to www.myspace.com/ creativehouseoflancaster and click on photos.

Have a great night!
Cheers,
Anne
